A report by application research company Flurry has revealed that a staggering 81 million mobile applications were downloaded in the UK during the Christmas holiday week between the 25th-31st December 2011.
Flurry’s findings have revealed that device activations and app downloads for the last week of December 2011 have gone down in iOS and Android history for being the highest ever recorded.
Worldwide application downloads peaked at 1.2 billion from the 25th-31st December, with the U.S accounting for just under half of the total downloads in the period at 42.3%.
Flurry estimates that 6.8 million iOS and Android devices were activated on Christmas day alone; a record breaking figure for both Apple and Google. It was also reported that 242 million applications were downloaded Worldwide on December 25th.
This is the first time that application downloads have reached over 1 billion in a week. Flurry’s analysis of the growing mobile market has led them to expect this trend to increase over the next year, and it is likely that we will see more weeks surpass the billion mark in 2012.
