3.8 billion apps downloaded in the first half of 2010

Research2Guidance have released a report into the global application market for the first half of 2010.

They found that mobile application downloads have reached 3.8 billion in the first half of 2010, compared with 3.1 billion for the whole of 2009.

Application market revenue within the US increased to $2.2 billion within the first 6 months of 2010, compared with $1.7 billion for the whole of 2009.

Research has shown that people are actively paying for apps on their smartphones, and this has seen the average price of paid for apps in the US increase to $3.60.

The report shows a healthy application market and a spokesperson for Research2Guidance states: “The market is gaining momentum as more and more smartphone users have direct and easy access to app stores. In addition, the app stores which were founded in 2009 have finally managed to increase application numbers and are growing their app business.”
