The TfL mobile recruiting app has been available some time. Before I say another word a huge WELL DONE to the TfL. How many UK corporates have managed to reach candidates via a mobile app? I can tell you – zero! Not one! Check out the UK breakdown here. So good work to TfL for trying.
Now let’s take a deeper look at the app.
It provides a nice simple interface that allows candidates to view categories and then vacancies for that category. It follows some Apple interface guidelines so it is very easy to use. It has a suitable brand and feel. It lacks some additional features such as information about the organisation, or a shortlist, or push notifications. But for first phase into Mobile Recruiting it is a wonderful start.
Now that’s enough, time for the gloves to come off! First up the TfL career website has a video, why is this not in the app? The website has people’s stories, a nice feature – but why miss it off the app? The website also has loads of valuable information about apprenticeships, this should be in the app. Please don’t take this the wrong way, I am very happy to see the app live but with just a little bit of additional effort using all existing content the application could have been marvelous!
Compared to other solutions that are equally missing the additional information, it is one of the best, as it is well designed. But perhaps a tad overkill for TfL at the moment, as they only have ONE vacancy on their website and on their app.
